What medications should I stop?
In general, you can take most of your regular medications with sips of water on the morning of the surgery unless recommended otherwise by your surgeon or anaesthetist.
Here are some exceptions:
- Aspirin
- Warfarin (Coumadin)
- Clopidogrel/Plavix
- NSAIDs (Advil and others)
You will be informed of when to stop these medications at your pre-admission visit. In certain cases, your surgical and medical teams might recommend not stopping these medications before surgery. Please make sure you discuss this with your surgeon at the pre-operative visit.
